Home-made rewards
Sometimes kids just need to be blessed with a little reward here and there when they work really hard on something. Ryan needed something like that and since he loves playdough, we made some (recipe here). Jonathan wanted to play too...

I thought the snails they made were cute....

Ryan's first copybook
Ryan started his first official copybook today. It is All Thing Bright and Beautiful: Copying the Hymns - Christian Devotional Copywork by the Bogart Family. It starts with the key verse: Genesis 1:1 and then goes into the song. (and yes, it was a freebie download that I printed!)
He has traced letters in Pre-K workbooks, but he feels like a big boy now because he is actually copying sentences. He said "I am glad I get to do copywork now!"
I am glad as well. :-)

Ryan's Reading & Numbers
So far, we have been really happy with Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. Ryan is on lesson 6 (we don't do it every day) and actually asks to do the lessons. It is so easy! You can see the little red octopus lying on the other pillow. He "helped" teach Ryan today.
Here Ryan is tracing numbers in a cute book I got from Dollar Tree (Disney's numbers and counting/ Winnie the Pooh). We also have one to trace letters. They are a great value since they cover the basics and have bright, colorful pictures. Best of all, they only cost us $1!
Eventually he will move on to Italic writing like his brothers, but for now we are just getting the basics down.

Back to Business
Today was our first school day of the New Year. I have so many plans, and I am very excited about some of the "new" things I want to do with the boys (more about those later!).
I found a cute calendar kit at Dollar Tree for the boys to color the pages and place stickers for the months, days, birthdays, etc.
I finished writing in the dates and events, but we were only able to get up to March "stickered". Like I said, it's time-consuming!

Jonathan colored January, and Ryan colored February (Justin had other projects going on and wasn't as interested). While the boys were doing seatwork, Ryan and I spent time working on adding dates and stickers. It is a time-consuming project, but we had fun.
